Adult Classes

City Shul offers adult learning opportunities for all levels, from a Basic Judaism class to advanced studies. Shabbat evenings and mornings include Torah study. We also have adult programming that stimulates intellectually and builds social connections. and We encourage your ideas for adult learning and programming. ​High Holidays "Boot-camp!" ​4 Thursdays: Sept 8, 15, 22 and 29, 7:30 PM at Wolfond.  
This year the holidays come "late"... so we can spend some time intellectually and spiritually preparing. Come to one, some, or all of these 4 stand-alone sessions. Members free, non-members $10 per session at the door. No registration and no Hebrew necessary.
Sept 8: The grand themes of atonement and forgiveness: Rabbi Goldstein
Sept 15: The main prayers and their deep roots: Yonah Sienna
Sept 22: The structure and choreography of the services: Rabbi Emma Gottlieb
Sept 29: The unique music of the services: Yona Lunsky
BASIC JUDAISM: 6 Monday nights: Nov 7, 14, 21, Dec 5,12, 19 taught by Rabbi Emma Gottlieb.
An attempt at the impossible task of explaining, defining, and understanding the vast ocean of Jewish history, rituals, holidays, life cycle, philosophy and text in just 6 weeks! All welcome! 
Fee: $160 members; $200 member couple. $200 non-members. Non-member couple $300.

HAFTARAH TROPE: 5 Wednesday nights: Nov 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30, 7:30-9:30
If you can read Hebrew and hold a tune, you can become one of our shul's haftarah readers! This free course for members only will teach you the trope (chanting system) of haftarah. Taught by Cantor Cheryl Wunch. Free— open to members only. Contact the Cantor directly for registration.

Men’s Lunchtime Chavurah (Friendship Group)

Meeting once a month, times and places to be determined, the goal of the group is to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for open discussion as well as foster new friendships among men who are City Shul members. Conversations will range from current events to life issues, including lots of thought and lots of laughter. Women's Chavurah

A once a month Friday night Shabbat dinner in member's homes for City Shul women to foster new friendshipsin a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and discuss issues of special relevance and interest to women. Always accepting new participants! Contact Karen.
