In Our Jewish Community

Toronto has an abundance of Jewish events, both live and online.

If you would like an event listed here, please send an email for consideration

Yom Hashoah commemoration - Beth Emeth Synagogue - Sunday, May 5, 7 PM

The Toronto Holocaust Museum – together with Beth Emeth Synagogue, Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre, Canadian Society for Yad Vashem, the Azrieli Foundation’s Holocaust Survivor Memoirs Program, Facing History and Ourselves, and March of the Living Canada – is honoured to be presenting a community-wide Yom HaShoah commemoration. You can learn more about the community wide event here.

We invite your congregations to join us for this important event and add your synagogue’s name as an official community partner. Given the unique nature of Yom Hashoah, we respectfully request that you refrain from scheduling events for that evening. As well, please note that this program will be streamed live for those who wish to attend virtually.

The program will explore Holocaust remembrance in a post-October 7 world with keynote speaker Yoni Berrous from the International School for Holocaust Studies at Yad Vashem. Together, we will reflect on the life, spirituality, and vibrancy of prewar Jewish communities through an original short film. The program will also include a candle-lighting ceremony to pay tribute to the victims of the Shoah and to honour the survivors.

Mosaic Outdoor Club of Ontario

Mosaic Outdoor Club of Ontario is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organization integrating Jewish values and an appreciation of the outdoors and the natural world. They provide a positive social atmosphere for sharing active experiences. They have events on a regular basis in the GTA and Ottawa.

If interested, you can sign up on their private Meetup website HERE. All events are created and led by Mosaic volunteers, and range from city walks and county hikes to cycling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, skating, canoe/kayak trips, retreat weekends (camp for adults!) and more.

Out of the Cold Program - Saint Luke's UC

The Out of the Cold Meal Program at Saint Luke’s UC urgently needs volunteers. The Meal Program operates on Sundays and Wednesdays and serves 650 hot meals a week to those facing food insecurity. The Program began as an emergency response during the pandemic and was to operate 6 months a year and serve a total of 21, 000 over 3 years.

The emergency has become permanent and on December 10th, 2023 the Program entered its 37th consecutive month of operation and served its 80,000th hot meal. The Meal Program is the largest interfaith volunteer food effort in the history of Toronto.
