Purim 2015

Torahpalooza!

On Sunday, June 1st, 2014 from 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm we welcomed our newly commissioned Torah. For the first time in Jewish history, five female scribes created a Torah that came to City Shul. We marked the occasion with a Rosh Chodesh women's minyan and Torah-sew, and an outdoor street processional, klezmer, spiritual ceremony, and joyous reception.

Pride: City Shul is Proud of our Inclusiveness!

Scotch Tasting FUNraiser

A shul is not only where people gather to pray. It is a community where just being together is fun and joyous. Our first FUNraiser, a Single Malt Scotch Tasting and Food Pairing, was just such a time.

Purim Family Mitzvah Day

We brought songs, laughter and joy to L'Chayim Retirement Home when we made home-made vases and filled them with tulips for Mishloach Manot for the residents.

Tu Bishvat

The New Year of the Trees, the 7 species of Israel, four cups of grape juice from white to red and in-between, planting sprouts, the Jewish values of Kindness to animals and respect for the earth demonstrated through a Whimz Live Animals Programme- we had it all at our Tu Bishvat Family Celebration with Camp Shomria!

Gil Hovav

Israeli chef, food writer, and all-around maven and mentsch Gil Hovav had us in stitches with colorful stories of his Israeli upbringing (he's great grand-son of Eliezer Ben Yehuda, who revived the Hebrew language) while he demonstrated how to make Moroccan zhoug (spicy sauce) on Bonnie Stern's gorgeous homemade challah.

Chanukah

Latkes and sufganiyot (donuts) and lots of beautiful Menorahs to light, songs and Israeli dancing with Camp Gesher made our Chanukah celebration so festive. Chag Ha-urim sameyach! A special thanks to our Bar/Bat Mitzvah class volunteers!

Lag B'Omer Bonfire

A sold-out crowd enjoyed kosher hotdogs, chips and all the fixin's thanks to the generosity of DSM Foods, Inc. and fantastic kosher vegan marshmallows for our yummy s'mores from Evergreen Foods. We sang Israeli and Jewish songs along with Eldan Cohen, kicked around soccer balls, played in the playground, shmoozed with new and old members, got to know each other's dogs, ate more and laughed till (and even while) the rain came!
